Community Driven, Collaborative Platform for Autism in India.

MFM TOYS is a India based Toy Company making Toys with 'Less Teaching, More Learning' approach. The journey evolves into toys that help the cause of Autism. But Autism Spectrum disorder is more complex and needs a community collaboration to serve the cause.

Where Does it Starts ...

MFM Toys started working on developing educational concepts around Magnets. We believe MAGNETS are Most Curious and Magical Thing that Kids have. Magnets are intriguing, yet easy to master. We started making stuff which we thought could make learning Fun and Interactive, 'Less Teaching, More Learning'. We focused on Basic Skill Sets that kids could learn from our toys.

In this journey we connected with Parents of Autistic Kids, who found our products to be interesting and useful, they are flooded with ideas, as magnets do attract Autistic kids. Inspired by How useful Magnetic toys can be to help an Autistic child. We have decided to dedicate our effort to support and develop Toys and Content that can help Autistic Kids. To move further we must first understand what is 'Autism or ASD'.

What is Autism?

'Austism Spectrum Disorder' or Autism is A mental condition, present from early childhood, characterized by great difficulty in communicating and forming relationships with other people and in using language and abstract concepts.

Autism Spectrum Disorder.

ASD can be associated with intellectual disability, difficulties in motor coordination and attention and physical health issues such as sleep and gastrointestinal disturbances. Some persons with ASD excel in visual skills, music, math and art.

There is no medical detection or cure for autism. One of the most important things you can do as a parent is to learn the early signs of autism and become familiar with the typical developmental milestones that your child should be reaching.

A Documentary on Autism

A is for Autism takes a warm look at the world of autistic youngsters and adults, using their drawings, live footage and commentary in a fashion that enthralls as well as educates.

Director Tim Webb's experience as an animator led him to realise that there was a quality in some autistic children's drawings that would lend itself to animation. In 1991 Channel 4 Television commissioned him to explore the possibility of making a short film for their 'Disabling World' season to give a general audience a small window into the condition of autism.

Learn the Signs of Autism.

The following "red flags" may indicate your child is at risk for an autism spectrum disorder. If your child exhibits any of the following, please don't delay in asking your pediatrician or family doctor for an evaluation:

  • No big smiles or other warm, joyful expressions by six months or thereafter
  • No back-and-forth sharing of sounds, smiles or other facial expressions by nine months
  • No babbling by 12 months
  • No back-and-forth gestures such as pointing, showing, reaching or waving by 12 months
  • No words by 16 months
  • No meaningful, two-word phrases (not including imitating or repeating) by 24 months
  • Any loss of speech, babbling or social skills at any age.

Each child or adult with autism is unique and, so, each autism intervention plan should be tailored to address specific needs. Relating new information to the child's passions may help the child be interested and engaged in learning. For example, if your child struggles with social skills and loves dinosaurs, she may enjoy books about dinosaur friends.

Typically, different interventions and supports become appropriate as a child develops and acquires social and learning skills.

MFM TOYS' 'A for Autism' : The Idea

Engaging the Child.

Engaging autistic children in play can be a lot more challenging than with non-autistic children. In addition, play needs to reflect both enjoyment for the child, and assist development of specific personality traits and coping mechanisms.

Autism kids develop and live in a world of their own. As a parent or caretaker we shall aim to bring and introduce our world to theirs. It is suggested to start with things they love and identify. Our childhood is unimaginable without Jigsaw Puzzles, but Autistic Child will avoid the complexity in the shapes and design, you need to start with easy puzzle which has his favourite cartoon character or food etc.

Twisiting the Classic Games.

A parent wanted to play the classic 'Snakes and Ladders' game with her daughter with autism. Sliding down the number on stepping on snake's head was discouraging for her daughter and she prepared a game without the snakes to make the game interesting, giving her daughter quality time.
